It’s hard enough to build a wind farm in the middle of the blustery North Sea. To be of any use, engineers must link up the wind turbines with massive transformers tethered to land by miles-long underwater cables that carry electrons to customers.
In a new episode of the GE web series “In the Wild,” hosts Adam Savage and Alie Ward take viewers behind the scenes to see how a sea breeze can turn on the kitchen lights. The pair travelled to Germany, where GE engineers are putting the final touches on a North Sea wind farm that will eventually provide power to 1 million households.
